CenterREP’s “A Christmas Carol” Is Brimming in the Holiday Spirit!

Charles Dickens’ endearing “A Christmas Carol” has beautifully withstood the test of time, and CenterREP’s stage production, currently playing at the Hofmann Theater at the Lesher Center for the Arts (1601 Civic Drive) in Walnut Creek, CA. through December 22, is the perfect way to welcome in this holiday season. It’s a charming story, brimming with music and dance, love and laughter, as well as compelling characters. Spectacular special effects throughout the show add to the excitement and surprise of the play, and even really scary ghosts, who, when introduced on stage, really gives the audience a scare!

Based on the novella by Charles Dickens, the story follows miserly Ebenezer Scrooge, who runs a counting house with an underpaid clerk named Bob Cratchit. Cratchit has to beg to get Christmas Day off because Scrooge does not believe in charity, even at Christmas. The bah humbug–spouting Scrooge is then famously visited by the ghost of his deceased business partner, Jacob Marley, who warns him that he better get right with Christmas or he’s going to be fettered in chains for the afterlife. Scrooge is then visited by the spirits of Christmas Past, Christmas Present and Christmas Yet to Come, and he finds the true meaning of Christmas.

A fantastic cast gives familiar characters unique personalities.  Michael Ray Wisely is very convincing in the role of Ebenezer Scrooge, while others that deserve superb accolades include Michael Patrick Wiles as Bob Cratchit, Alan Kornfeld as Tiny Tim, Jeffrey Draper as Marley, Michael McCarty as Mr. Fezziwig, Janine Perasso as Mrs. Fezziwig, Grace Perry as Martha Cratchit, and even Ken Ruta as the story’s narrator.

This version of “A Christmas Carol” is certain to get you in the holiday spirit.
