“Behind the Golden Curtain” Coming to the Orinda Theatre

     Nearly 40 years after making its television debut, “The Golden Girls’ is as popular today as ever. This television sitcom about four senior women living together in a Florida retirement community featured numerous guest stars, some of whom will be making live appearances at the Orinda Theatre in Orinda, CA. on May 26, 27, and 28 for this celebration of all things “Golden Girls”.

     This three-day event will include a behind-the-scenes discussion with producers, writers, directors, as well as guest stars of the show. Plus so much more!

     If you’re interested in what happened behind-the-scenes of “The Golden Girls” then you will definitely want to hear from guests who will be on hand to discuss these things, including Terry Hughes (Director), Marsha Posner Williams (Producer), Marc Sotkin (Writer, Producer), Marc Cherry (Writer, Producer), Gail Parent (Writer, Producer), and others.

     Also making stage appearances at the Orinda Theatre will be a number of guest stars from the show, including Ronnie Schell (“Triple Play), Shawn Schepps (“Blanche’s Little Girl”), Sondra Currie (“Big Daddy’s Little Lady”), Robert Picardo (“The Operation”), Julie McCullough (“Mary Has a Little Lamb”), etc.

     Opening night for “Behind the Golden Curtain” is Friday, May 26th at 6pm with New York comedy act The Golden Gays, as they present their musical show “Hot Flashbacks”. Picture it: The Orinda Theatre, 2023. Sophia Petrillo has gone missing! Your favorite pals and confidants Dorothy, Blanche, and Rose must travel down the road and back again across America to find her. Could she be at the Rusty Anchor? Or right in their kitchen on Richmond Street? Through a series of hilarious "hot flashbacks," these hip old grannies take you on a musical journey through The Golden Girls' most memorable moments to find their Ma! Lucky audience members may even have a chance to make their stage debut with the bosom buddies and become the next #TokenSophia. Live singing! Dancing! Bears! Oh My! Toto, we're not in Miami anymore, sugar.

     Then on Saturday, May 27 there will be speakers, including Marsha Posner Williams and Terry Hughes, who will offer insight as to how it all started, including the ups and downs of the show. There will also be appearances from guest stars. Later that day there will also be “Golden Games” – who knows more about the Golden Girls – the fans or the ones who made the show?      On Sunday, May 28 there will be appearances from more guest stars who will tell the audience stories of their experiences on the show. That afternoon, Marc Sotkin (Producer, Writer), Gail Parent (Writer), Marc Cherry (Writer, and creator of TV’s “Desperate Housewives”), and others will discuss the later seasons of “The Golden Girls”. Also making appearances will be guest stars Ronnie Schell (who also starred in “Gomer Pyle”) and Robert Picardo (who starred in “Star Trek: Voyager”). Later this day legendary sitcom writer from Season One of “The Golden Girls,” Stan Zimmerman, and host Alexander Rodriguez, will dish on the behind-the-scenes antics, inside gossip, and favorite clips from the iconic series.
