TRAVEL & ENTERTAINMENT: BroadwaySF Announces 2020-2021 Season

Mar 20, 2020
BroadwaySF has announced seven Broadway productions coming to San Francisco as part of the 2020–2021 BroadwaySF season.

Productions include “MOULIN ROUGE! THE MUSICAL,” currently playing to sold-out houses on Broadway; the 2019 Tony® Award-winner for Best Musical “HADESTOWN;” Daniel Fish’s award-winning re-envisioned “OKLAHOMA!;” the 2019 Tony-winner for best choreography, “AIN’T TOO PROUD – THE LIFE AND TIMES OF THE TEMPTATIONS;” the Tony-winning explosion of fabulous excess that is “THE CHER SHOW;” The New York Times’ critics’ pick musical about how Broadway can change the world, “THE PROM;” and the critically-acclaimed stage adaptation by Academy® Award-winner Aaron Sorkin of Harper Lee’s Pulitzer Prize-winning masterwork, “TO KILL A MOCKINGBIRD,” directed by Tony-winner Bartlett Sher.

Enter a world of splendor and romance, of eye-popping excess, of glitz, grandeur and glory! This is a world where Bohemians and aristocrats rub elbows and revel in electrifying enchantment. Pop the champagne and prepare for the spectacular... Welcome to “Moulin Rouge! The Musical.” As in the film, the stage production of “Moulin Rouge! The Musical” celebrates some of the greatest popular music of the last 50 years. The stage musical features many of the iconic songs from the movie and also recent hits released since the movie premiered 19 years ago.

“Hadestown” intertwines two mythic tales — that of young dreamers Orpheus and Eurydice, and that of King Hades and his wife Persephone — as it invites you on a hell-raising journey to the underworld and back. Mitchell’s beguiling melodies and Chavkin’s poetic imagination pit industry against nature, doubt against faith, and fear against love.

Daniel Fish’s production of “Oklahoma!” tells a story of a community circling its wagons against an outsider, and the frontier life that shaped America. Upending the sunny romance of a farmer and a cowpoke, this fabulous stage production allows the classic musical – and our country – to be seen in a whole new light.

“Ain't Too Proud – The Life and Times of The Temptations” is the electrifying, new smash-hit Broadway musical that follows The Temptations’ extraordinary journey from the streets of Detroit to the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame. With their signature dance moves and silky-smooth harmonies, they rose to the top of the charts creating an amazing 42 Top Ten Hits with 14 of those reaching number one.

Superstars come and go… but Cher is forever! For six straight decades, only one unstoppable force has flat-out dominated popular culture — breaking down barriers, pushing boundaries, and letting nothing and no one stand in her way. “THE CHER SHOW” is the Tony Award-winning musical of her story, and it’s packed with so much Cher that it takes three women to play her: the kid starting out, the glam pop star, and the icon.

Next, everyone’s invited to the joyous Broadway hit that has been hailed as “smart and big-hearted” and will definitely make you believe in musical comedy again! “THE PROM” is a new musical comedy about big Broadway stars on a mission to change the world and the love they discover that unites them all.

All rise for Academy Award-winner Aaron Sorkin’s adaptation of Harper Lee’s Pulitzer Prize-winning masterwork “TO KILL A MOCKINGBIRD.” It is “the most successful American play in Broadway history, and has not played to a single empty seat!
