TRAVEL & ENTERTAINMENT: The Timing for Will Durst's "Elect to Laugh: 2016" Couldn't Be More Perfect!

May 30, 2016
by Evan Almdale
Just when you think the 2016 election cycle can’t get any more over-the-top, along comes Will Durst to find fresh and even more outrageous material to satire.

Durst’s stand-up show, "Elect to Laugh: 2016," currently playing through July 26, 2016 at The Marsh San Francisco (1062 Valencia Street, between 21st and 22nd Streets), sweeps both sides of the aisle with his hilarious blend of monologues, commentary and the occasional rant. Standing on stage with only his trusty overhead projector (circa 1975) for providing visual interest, Durst hits the hypocritical where it hurts, chronicling the country’s tortuously amusing path through primaries, debates, ads, mud, spin, tears and flip-flops.

As Durst puts it he is just “Mining from some the best joke writers in the business: Donald Trump, Hillary Clinton, Bernie Sanders and Barack Obama, not to mention the ubiquitous Sarah Palin…”

Acknowledged as one of the premier political humorists in the country, Durst is not only a stand-up performer but also writes with bite. Durst is a 5-time Emmy award nominee and has made 800+ television performances that include Letterman, HBO, Showtime, CNN, Fox News and all the major networks. He has performed at events featuring Bill Clinton, George H.W. Bush and Al Gore.

Although Durst claims that “This show is more bipartisan than an Apple Pie Day proclamation,” I found this performance to definitely lean slightly left. Well, it is San Francisco! The audience was thoroughly engaged with Durst and the 80 minutes flew by. If you like political humor or just want a different point- of-view on the election process, definitely take the time to enjoy an evening with Will Durst. Run time is 80 minutes.
